Trump Warns Musk of Major Repercussions If He Supports Democratic Candidates Financially
President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Elon Musk regarding potential consequences if Musk funds Democratic candidates opposing Republicans who support the GOP’s budget bill. In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump emphasized, “If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” while refraining from detailing specific repercussions. He reiterated that serious consequences await Musk if such actions are taken. The relationship between Trump and Musk has deteriorated publicly, following a feud that broke out earlier in the week.
When asked if he wished to mend ties with Musk, Trump curtly replied no and assumed their relationship was effectively over. He expressed no intention to communicate with Musk anytime soon, stating, “I’m too busy doing other things.”
Trump criticized Musk for being “disrespectful to the office of the President” and dismissed Musk’s recent social media posts, including one that referenced Trump’s ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein. He characterized these accusations as “old news” that had been dissected years prior. The tension escalated after Musk voiced criticism about a GOP-led spending bill that passed through the House.
Trump expressed disappointment in Musk’s comments, claiming, “Elon knew the inner workings of this bill.” Subsequently, Musk’s posts included calls for impeachment and critiques of Trump’s tariff policies. Despite the ongoing conflict, Trump believes that the feud has inadvertently strengthened support for the budget bill among lawmakers. He noted that Musk’s actions prompted greater focus on the legislation, ultimately benefiting it. Vice President JD Vance later remarked that while he remains loyal to Trump, Musk’s recent attacks have made it difficult for a reconciliation to occur.
