Netanyahu Announces Death of Hamas Gaza Leader Mohammed Sinwar
Mohammed Sinwar, the Hamas chief in Gaza and younger brother of the recently killed leader Yahya Sinwar, has been confirmed dead, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This announcement came during a session with lawmakers on Wednesday. Mohammed Sinwar had been one of Israel’s most wanted individuals, assuming leadership of Hamas in October after the death of his brother, Yahya. Yahya Sinwar was responsible for orchestrating the terror attack on October 7, 2023, which ignited the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Following Yahya’s death, he became the overall leader of Hamas after Israel eliminated his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran. The Israeli military reported significant operations in the Gaza Strip, stating they targeted numerous sites over the previous 48 hours, including anti-tank missile positions and weapons storage facilities. These actions underline the intensified military efforts in the region. Simultaneously, the health ministry in Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, reported that at least one Palestinian was killed and 48 others were injured when gunfire erupted amidst a crowd at a newly established aid distribution site.
This site was set up by a foundation with backing from Israel and the United States. The origin of the gunfire remains unclear, as investigations are underway to determine whether it was fired by Israeli forces, private contractors, or other individuals present at the scene. This situation continues to evolve rapidly, and updates will likely follow as more information becomes available.
