Cubs Fans Disappointed: Pope Leo Allegedly Supports the White Sox, Claims His Brother

Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the first pope from the United States, and now faces the task of addressing important issues within the Catholic Church. However, many are curious about his personal affiliations, particularly his sports loyalties. As a Chicago native, the question on everyone’s minds is whether he supports the Chicago Cubs or the White Sox.

Prevost’s brother, John, clarified the speculation by stating that Robert is a fan of the White Sox. He confirmed, “Whoever said Cubs on the radio got it wrong. It’s Sox.” This revelation came shortly after Prevost was announced as the leader of the 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide, capturing immediate interest in his sports preferences.

Within hours of his election, the Cubs, having a fan base that remembers the legendary broadcaster Harry Caray’s enthusiastic encouragements, playfully claimed Prevost as one of their own on social media. However, John noted that while their mother was a Cubs fan, their father supported the St. Louis Cardinals. His brother emphasized that Robert never rooted for the Cubs.

The White Sox, eager to celebrate their newfound fandom, sent a jersey and hat to the Vatican. They expressed their delight, stating, “Family always knows best, and it sounds like Pope Leo XIV’s lifelong fandom falls a little closer to 35th and Shields.” They appreciated having representation at the Vatican. Despite spending decades in Peru, Prevost’s Chicago origins have sparked lighthearted discussions about his sports allegiance.

While faith remains central to his life, he enjoys sports as well. A Villanova University graduate, he has previously celebrated the university’s NCAA championship and mentioned his interest in tennis, expressing a desire to return to the court despite his busy new role.
