Jennifer Aniston to Headline Adaptation of ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ Book

Jennifer Aniston is set to executive produce and star in a new Apple TV+ series inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s 2022 memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died.” This announcement was made on July 1. The series, which will have ten episodes, will be adapted by McCurdy herself, who will also take on the role of executive producer and showrunner alongside Ari Katcher, known for his work on “Ramy” and “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.” McCurdy’s memoir recounts her challenges as a child actor during the mid-2000s, revealing her experiences with an abusive mother who pressured her into the entertainment industry.

While McCurdy was known for her vibrant character Sam Puckett on “iCarly,” her personal life was fraught with anxiety and a troubled relationship with her mother. The TV adaptation will explore the co-dependent dynamic between an 18-year-old actress on a successful kids’ show and her narcissistic mother, a role that Aniston will portray. Aniston is already familiar with Apple TV+, collaborating on “The Morning Show,” which is set to return for a fourth season on September 17. In an October 2022 interview, McCurdy shared her motivations for writing her memoir, emphasizing that she felt compelled to share her story to inspire others to heal from their own difficult childhoods.

She articulated her belief that creatives often feel driven to express themselves through their experiences. McCurdy has described the writing process as therapeutic, allowing her to mourn her mother’s absence without the burdens of anger. Thanks to therapy and the support from readers, she now finds herself able to remember her mother in a more peaceful way, acknowledging the healing journey she has undertaken.
