Trump Announces Israel’s Acceptance of Gaza Ceasefire Terms; Hamas Yet to Respond

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize a ceasefire deal in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. In a post on Truth Social, he mentioned that his representatives had a productive meeting with Israeli officials regarding the situation in Gaza. He expressed hope that all parties would be able to end the war during the proposed 60-day ceasefire. Trump acknowledged the efforts of Qatar and Egypt in facilitating peace negotiations, stating that they would deliver the final proposal.

He urged Hamas to accept the deal, emphasizing that the current situation would only worsen if they did not agree. As of now, the Israeli Embassy in Washington has not responded to inquiries regarding Trump’s announcement, and there has been no official comment from Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House on Monday, potentially to discuss this ceasefire initiative. The push for a ceasefire comes after a breakdown of a previous agreement, following Israel’s airstrikes in March, which intensified the conflict.

Just recently, Trump hinted that a ceasefire agreement was on the horizon. “We’re working on Gaza and trying to get it taken care of,” he told reporters. The conflict has taken a devastating toll, with approximately 50 of the 251 hostages still held in Gaza since the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in over 1,200 fatalities. Moreover, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have led to over 56,000 deaths, creating a profound humanitarian crisis marked by a severe lack of essential resources for the Gazan population.
