In closing, Diddy’s lawyer describes Cassie relationship as a ‘remarkable modern love story.’
Today, during the federal trial of Sean Combs, jurors heard closing arguments from defense attorney Marc Agnifilo. In a four-hour presentation, he forcefully challenged the government’s portrayal, arguing that Diddy is unfairly targeted for his sexual “lifestyle” and maintains his innocence on all charges.
While acknowledging that Diddy did physically assault his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, Agnifilo emphasized that this does not equate to the serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. “He is going to fight to the death to defend himself against what he didn’t do,” Agnifilo stated.
The prosecution claims that Diddy sex-trafficked Ventura and another former girlfriend, referred to as “Jane,” coercing them into drug-fueled sexual encounters known as “freak offs.” Agnifilo dismissed these allegations, framing Diddy’s relationship with Ventura as a “great modern love story” among consenting participants.
He characterized the encounters as pleasant experiences in upscale hotel rooms, downplaying their nature. “He’s not the only man in America making homemade porn,” Agnifilo quipped.
In his closing remarks, Agnifilo urged jurors to “summon the courage” to return a not-guilty verdict for Diddy, insisting that he is not a racketeer and stressing his innocence to his family. On the other side, prosecutor Maurene Comey rebutted, accusing the defense of providing “lies” and excuses for “inexcusable behavior.”
She emphasized the seriousness of Diddy’s actions, stating that in his world, “no” was never an option. Diddy, who was visibly engaged during Agnifilo’s statements, showed a notable contrast to his demeanor during the prosecution’s arguments.
Each evening during the trial, NBC’s “Dateline” will release episodes of a special podcast to keep audiences updated on developments in the case.
