Lifeguard injured and hospitalized after being struck by a beach umbrella at Jersey Shore

A lifeguard has been hospitalized after a shocking accident involving a beach umbrella in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at around 9:30 a.m., as officials reported that the lifeguard, who is believed to be in her 20s, attempted to capture an umbrella that had blown away in the wind. According to Asbury Park Fire Chief Kevin Keddy, the unfortunate event took place along 3rd Street when the woman was chasing after the errant umbrella. In her efforts to grab it, she suffered a severe injury as the beach umbrella impaled her.

The umbrella went through her upper left shoulder and exited through her back. Despite the severity of her injury, Chief Keddy stated that the woman remained conscious and alert throughout the ordeal. She was promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where she is currently listed in stable condition.
