Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs Cleared to Return Following Blood Clot Recovery
Victor Wembanyama, the star player for the San Antonio Spurs, has announced that he is fully cleared to participate in the upcoming season after recovering from deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder. He shared this news with the French newspaper L’Equipe on Monday, signaling a positive update for both himself and the team. Although the Spurs had anticipated his return, they had not made an official statement until now.
“I’m officially cleared to return… I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again,” Wembanyama expressed in his interview. His excitement is understandable, especially considering his remarkable performance prior to his injury.
Two years ago, Wembanyama was named the league’s Rookie of the Year, and this past season’s accolade went to Spurs guard Stephon Castle. Wembanyama was a strong candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year before he was sidelined in February due to the health issue. Prior to his injury, Wembanyama was averaging impressive stats, with 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, and 3.7 assists per game.
His performance placed him in elite company, becoming only the second player in NBA history to achieve such averages, a feat previously accomplished by the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the 1975-76 season. In addition to his recovery, Wembanyama has been active in recent months, traveling extensively. He even spent time at a Shaolin temple in Zhengzhou, China, where he engaged in learning Chan meditation, Shaolin Kung Fu, and traditional Chinese medicine, enriching both his physical and mental well-being as he prepares for the season ahead.
