Suspected Kentucky church shooter scheduled for a domestic violence hearing just one day later
A tragic shooting incident occurred at a church in Kentucky, where a man named Guy House is accused of killing two women and injuring a state trooper. House was scheduled to appear in court for a domestic violence hearing on the same day as the attack, which raised concerns among local officials.
According to Star Rutherford, a relative of the victims, House arrived at the Richmond Road Baptist Church looking for one of her sisters. When informed she wasn’t present, he ominously stated, “Well I guess someone’s going to have to die then,” before shooting Rutherford’s mother, 72-year-old Beverly Gumm, in the chest.
House subsequently took the life of Christina Combs, another of Rutherford’s sisters. House had gone to the church seeking the mother of his children, though his court hearing did not relate to her.
Authorities confirmed that House, at 47, was involved in an exchange of gunfire with police which ultimately led to his death in a church parking lot after the shooting spree. At least three police officers returned fire, resulting in House’s fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, the state trooper who was shot is reported to be in stable condition, although the identities of others injured remain undisclosed. The violence began when House shot the trooper during a routine traffic stop near the Lexington airport.
After the shooting, he fled, stole a vehicle, and proceeded to the church where he opened fire. Witnesses described the initial traffic stop as seeming ordinary until gunshots rang out.
Local and state agencies are continuing investigations into the events, and Governor Andy Beshear has urged the community to pray for all affected by this senseless violence.
