Jon Stewart Slams Paramount and CBS with Swearing Following Cancellation of Colbert’s ‘Late Show’

Jon Stewart criticized CBS for canceling “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” during a recent episode of “The Daily Show.” He condemned Paramount Global, CBS’s parent company, suggesting that the decision exemplifies a capitulation to former President Donald Trump. Stewart pointed out Paramount’s pending $8 billion merger with Skydance, emphasizing that “The Late Show” helped generate significant revenue for CBS.

He expressed frustration with the state of corporate media, stating, “Shows that say something, shows that take a stand, shows that are unafraid… we try, we f—— try, every night.” Stewart argued that trying to appeal to everyone with bland content would make networks unwatchable and ineffective. The segment included a call to action for institutions to “sack the f— up” or “go f— yourself,” which aired uncensored due to cable regulations.

Following Stewart’s comments, Colbert responded by echoing his sentiments, directed toward Trump, after the former president celebrated the show’s cancellation. CBS claimed their decision was purely financial and unrelated to the show’s performance. Nonetheless, the cancellation raised eyebrows in the entertainment industry, particularly given Colbert’s history of critiquing Trump.

As the media landscape evolves, Stewart acknowledged that late-night television is financially challenged. He noted that abandoning creativity in response to industry shifts is not a solution. Stewart expressed determination to continue his work, underscoring the importance of perseverance in an evolving media environment.

As he said, “This is not the moment to give in… I’m not going anywhere — I think.”
