Florida Republican Cory Mills Facing Eviction Due to Unpaid Rent, Claims Landlord Reports

Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican from Florida, is being sued for eviction due to alleged non-payment of rent on a property in Washington, D.C., as indicated in court documents. The complaint was filed in D.C. Superior Court by Bozzuto Management Company, which claims Mills owes a total of $85,009 in rent for the period from March to July. The monthly rent for the property is stated to be $20,833. The management company is requesting that the court permits his eviction and requires him to make future monthly payments directly to the court until the case is resolved.

An initial hearing is set for September 8. This lawsuit was first reported by independent journalist Roger Sollenberger. Court records suggest that Mills has consistently failed to pay rent on time and has been charged late fees repeatedly. He reportedly moved into the property in June 2023.

Notably, in January, Mills received a notice demanding over $18,000 in past due rent, which had to be settled by February 26, along with a warning regarding the potential lawsuit. While Mills did not comment immediately through his spokesperson, he shared screenshots on social media earlier in the day. The posts indicated his attempts to obtain payment links from management and mentioned difficulties in processing payments. Additionally, the management company’s attorney did not respond to inquiries about Mills’ social media claims.

This legal issue is part of a broader context; Mills is also under police investigation following reports of an alleged assault at an apartment building nearby. Mills’ office has declared that he “vehemently” denies any wrongdoing, and authorities have stated that no charges have been filed against him. Mills has served Florida’s 7th Congressional District since January 2023.
