Fireworks Mishap Injures 19 at Western Germany Fair Celebration
In Düsseldorf, Germany, a fireworks display turned hazardous during a fair, resulting in injuries to at least 19 individuals, with four people suffering serious injuries. The incident occurred late Friday at the Rheinkirmes event, taking place along the banks of the Rhine River. Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic scene, where fireworks exploded perilously close to the ground.
Among those injured was a child, as reported by the DPA news agency. Emergency services and fire crews swiftly responded to the situation, and German police have begun an investigation to determine what led to the accident. Peter Dietlmaier, a spokesman for the Düsseldorf fire services, expressed the organization’s condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with those affected and their families.
We wish all those affected a speedy recovery from the consequences of the accident. We deeply regret the accident.”
In light of this unfortunate event, organizers of the fair decided to end the day’s festivities prematurely. They are now contemplating whether to hold the traditional fireworks display in the upcoming year.
The Rheinkirmes is a 10-day festival that features a variety of attractions, including amusement park rides, drone shows, and additional entertainment provided by a large team of staff. This longstanding event is organized by the St. Sebastianus Rifle Club, which has a history dating back to 1316. The club plays a vital role in maintaining the cultural heritage associated with the fair while seeking to ensure the safety of its participants.
