Driver Hits L.A. Crowd, Injuring 30; Bystanders Attack, Leading to Suspect Being Shot

In a disturbing incident early Saturday morning in Los Angeles, a man was forcibly removed from his vehicle by outraged bystanders and subsequently shot, following an event in which he drove his car into a crowd. This reckless act left seven individuals in critical condition while at least 23 others suffered injuries outside a nightclub.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, surveillance footage is currently being analyzed, and initial assessments suggest the incident was intentional. Law enforcement sources revealed that the suspect, identified as Fernando Ramirez, 29, had been ejected from the nightclub for disruptive and intoxicated behavior.

Ramirez has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon but remains hospitalized and has not yet been booked into jail. Police officers responded to the scene, located at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, around 2 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found Ramirez being assaulted by bystanders and determined that he had sustained a gunshot wound. Due to his condition, investigators are unable to confirm whether he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The shooter has been described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds, and wearing a blue jersey. He fled the scene on foot, heading westbound from Vermont Avenue.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to step forward. While officials have not disclosed the name of the nightclub involved, The Vermont Hollywood released a statement emphasizing their cooperation with law enforcement to ensure accountability for the incident.

Eyewitness accounts depict the chaos that ensued after the car collided with a taco cart before hitting the crowd. Reports indicated a loud bang and panic among patrons who ducked, fearing gunfire.

Mayor Karen Bass expressed her condolences for the victims, while various medical facilities have reported treating multiple individuals for minor to serious injuries. The investigation continues as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event.
