Company Investigates Couple Featured on Kiss Cam During Coldplay Concert
A data company announced on Friday that its CEO has been put on leave while an investigation is underway following an incident that occurred at a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts. The incident involved a “kiss cam” that captured a couple embracing, only for them to quickly retreat from view.
The video went viral, prompting widespread speculation. The company in question, Astronomer, confirmed the news late Friday evening, stating that CEO Andy Byron was placed on leave.
The controversial moment took place at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Wednesday, where the kiss cam displayed a couple that included a blonde woman and a silver-haired man. Upon being highlighted on screen, the woman hid her face, while the man ducked out of sight, creating an awkward situation that resonated across social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Lead singer Chris Martin of Coldplay appeared to make light of the situation during the concert, jokingly commenting on the couple’s sudden embarrassment. His quip added to the viral nature of the moment, as he speculated whether they were “having an affair or just very shy.”
In a statement posted on social media, Astronomer emphasized its commitment to conduct and accountability, mentioning that a formal investigation by the board of directors would commence regarding the incident. Although online users speculated that Byron was the man in the video, NBC News has not confirmed his identity or that of the woman involved.
As the company begins its inquiry, Pete DeJoy, co-founder and Chief Product Officer, will serve as the interim CEO. They have pledged to provide further details in the coming days.
Adding a humorous touch to the situation, the Philadelphia Phillies included a playful reenactment of the awkward moment during a game that took place the same day.
