Comic-Con Lights Up with Updates on ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ and ‘Bad Girls 2’
SAN DIEGO — Comic-Con is entering its third day with a focus on animation. Fans were treated to a sneak preview of “Coyote vs. ACME,” a unique blend of live-action and animation that had been shelved by Warner Bros. due to cost-cutting but is now set for a theatrical release in 2026. The film stars John Cena, who is also known for his role in the DC series “Peacemaker,” scheduled for a presentation in Hall H this Saturday.
Hall H kicked off Saturday with animations, as the cast of “Bad Guys 2” shared new footage from their film and recounted their recording experiences. Marc Maron, who voices Snake, humorously noted that he requested to be tied up while performing his lines, mentioning that it might enhance the character’s depth this time. Based on the graphic novels by Aaron Blabey, “Bad Guys 2” introduces a new group of animal criminals called the Bad Girls, voiced by Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, and Maria Bakalova.
Comic-Con’s biggest highlights include the much-anticipated presentation of “Project Hail Mary,” featuring Ryan Gosling on a critical interstellar mission. Additionally, fans received updates on the “Star Trek” franchise, including an episode that will feature the crew of the Enterprise as puppets, thanks to the Jim Henson Creature Shop. In a lively panel for “Coyote vs. ACME,” the stars engaged the audience with tales of the film—which at one point seemed doomed to obscurity.
Moderator Paul Scheer humorously shifted focus from Warner Bros. to the fictional Acme Corp, further amplifying the film’s quirky premise. The humor resonated as fans viewed a montage of the ever-tormented Coyote, culminating in a scene where his lawyer, played by Will Forte, inadvertently ignites chaos in the courtroom. The movie, adorned with cameos from beloved Looney Tunes characters, is slated for release on August 28, 2026.
A soaring attendance of 135,000 fans, many clad in costumes, is expected at Comic-Con 2025, which continues through Sunday, showcasing events like previews of “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” and “Predator: Badlands.”
