California Farmworker Loses Life During Disordered Federal Immigration Raid, According to Family Report

A cannabis farmworker, Jaime Alanis Garcia, tragically died on Saturday after sustaining critical injuries during a chaotic immigration raid by federal authorities in Southern California. His family confirmed that Garcia fell approximately 30 feet during the raid at Glass House Farms in Camarillo, situated about 50 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The fall resulted in severe injuries, including a broken neck and skull, ultimately leading to his death after a brief period on life support.

His family had gathered to say goodbye before he passed away. Teresa Romero, president of United Farm Workers, expressed deep sorrow over Garcia’s death. She stated, “Our hearts are heavy for the grieving family of Jaime Alanis, who died from injuries sustained during a chaotic raid.”

The organization vowed to support Garcia’s family during this difficult time. Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security clarified that Garcia was not in custody when he fell, although he had been on the roof of a greenhouse when the incident occurred. The immigration raid, which drew hundreds of demonstrators, escalated into violence.

Some protesters threw rocks and bricks at federal agents, prompting authorities to use less-lethal weapons and tear gas. This contentious operation resulted in the arrest of 319 undocumented migrants, as well as the rescue of 14 children from potential exploitation. Romero criticized these actions, arguing that such tactics disrupt communities and threaten lives.

She emphasized that U.S. citizens were also caught up in the raid and urged for legal protections for the affected children. This incident follows previous protests against similar immigration operations, highlighting growing tension regarding immigration enforcement in the region.
