Two Teens Injured in Shooting Near Stonewall Inn Following NYC Pride March, According to Police

On Sunday night, as NYC Pride celebrations were concluding, two teenage girls were shot near the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. The incident took place in Sheridan Square around 10 p.m.

The historic LGBTQ bar, the Stonewall Inn, was at the center of this event, which cast a shadow over an otherwise festive occasion. According to the police, a 16-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the head and is currently in critical condition.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl was shot in the leg but is reported to be in stable condition. Both victims were promptly transported to local hospitals for treatment.

An NYPD spokesperson indicated that it is still too early to determine if the shooting was related to hate crimes, and investigations are ongoing with no suspects identified at this time. New York Mayor Eric Adams expressed his sadness regarding the incident, emphasizing the tragedy of such violence occurring during what should be a joyful celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.

He highlighted the significance of the time, stating that events like these are deeply disheartening. In the aftermath, the Christopher Street Project, an organization advocating for transgender rights, released a statement mourning the violence and holding the victims and their families close in their hearts.

Witnesses, like Vivian Lewis, shared their heartache upon seeing the aftermath, which included police drones and medical personnel on the scene.
