Shari Redstone, Paramount Chair, Reveals Diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer

Paramount Global’s chair, Shari Redstone, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier this spring, as confirmed by a spokesperson. After experiencing fatigue and other related symptoms, she sought medical attention about two months ago and received the diagnosis the following day. Surgical intervention resulted in the removal of her thyroid gland; however, some cancer cells were found to have spread to her vocal cords.

Despite the ongoing treatment, Redstone is actively continuing her professional and philanthropic commitments. According to her spokesperson, Molly Morse, Redstone is maintaining a positive outlook as her prognosis is reported to be excellent. She initially kept her diagnosis private, revealing it only to a select group of family members, close friends, and advisers, including David Ellison, head of Skydance Media.

This diagnosis occurs as Paramount prepares for an $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media, which is pending approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Additionally, Paramount has entered mediation to address a lawsuit involving former U.S. President Donald Trump against CBS. Reports suggest that Paramount is considering a settlement offer of $15 million in this matter.

Redstone’s health situation has raised concerns, but her commitment to her role at Paramount remains steadfast during this challenging time. The company is navigating significant transitions as it looks toward its future with the proposed merger and pending legal issues, while Redstone focuses on her recovery.
