Palantir CEO Karp Warns AI Poses Risks: “It’s Either Us or China That Will Succeed
Palantir CEO Alex Karp recently emphasized the escalating artificial intelligence (AI) competition between the U.S. and China, predicting that it will eventually lead to one nation dominating the field. During an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street,” Karp expressed his concerns about the potentially dangerous implications of AI, stating, “There are positive and negative consequences, and either we win or China will win.”
Karp has consistently advocated for the United States to strengthen its position in AI development.
Earlier this year, he urged a coordinated national effort to enhance AI capabilities. In a recent letter to shareholders, he underscored Palantir’s commitment to advancing U.S. defense interests through their innovative technologies.
He believes that the U.S. currently possesses a significant advantage in the AI race, with Palantir at the forefront of improving security and efficiency for businesses. Karp remarked on the unique corporate leadership within the U.S. that is eager to adopt new technologies while leveraging substantial domain expertise, suggesting that European allies must learn from America’s approach.
Shares of Palantir, based in Denver, have seen remarkable growth in 2024 and continued their upward trajectory into 2025 as investors focus on the company’s collaborations with government contractors and agencies. The stock has surged 74% this year, although it trades at a higher earnings multiple compared to its tech counterparts.
In response to investor concerns about valuation, Karp straightforwardly stated, “You don’t like the price, exit.” Additionally, Karp addressed allegations regarding Palantir’s surveillance practices, asserting that the company is not monitoring American citizens, countering claims from recent reports suggesting otherwise.
