Elon Musk Launches Another Assault on Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Describing it as ‘Insane and Destructive’
Elon Musk launched a series of strong criticisms on Saturday regarding a significant spending bill that aims to fund much of former President Donald Trump’s agenda. This renewed criticism comes as Senate Republicans accelerate their efforts to pass the bill, referred to as the “big, beautiful bill,” to meet a July 4 deadline proposed by Trump. Musk alleged that the latest Senate draft would lead to millions of job losses in America and inflict strategic harm on the country. He described it as “utterly insane and destructive,” stating that it allocates resources to outdated industries while undermining future-oriented sectors.
Musk, who previously advised Trump, pointed to a poll indicating that the “big, beautiful bill” has garnered little political support, primarily due to its projected budgetary consequences. Many Republican voters have voiced concerns about the national debt, with a significant portion emphasizing that reducing the debt should be Congress’s top priority. Overall, most respondents indicated that maintaining current spending levels for programs like Medicaid is imperative. In his posts on X, Musk referred to the bill as political suicide for the Republican Party.
He has consistently criticized the potential impact of the legislation on the national deficit, arguing that it would negate the savings touted by the Department of Government Efficiency, which Trump appointed him to oversee earlier this year. He labelled the bill’s effects on the deficit as “putting America in the fast lane to debt slavery.”
Previously, Trump attributed Musk’s opposition to the bill to its provisions that would diminish electric vehicle tax credits. Musk retorted that certain components of the bill threaten clean energy production and are “incredibly destructive to America.” Following Musk’s departure from the Trump administration, he openly expressed his doubts about the feasibility of a bill being both big and beautiful. Amid ongoing efforts to pass the massive legislation, Senate Republicans are grappling with internal disagreements, particularly concerning cuts to Medicaid that could jeopardize rural hospitals.
Musk has called upon his followers on X to urge Congress to “kill the bill,” reflecting his sustained dissent against its implications.
