Driver Caught Speeding at 132 mph Claims He Was Late for Job Interview
A 19-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after a Connecticut State Police trooper caught him driving at an astonishing 132 mph. The incident occurred on I-91 south near Cromwell, where the trooper observed a Mercedes-Benz E300 speeding excessively.
Upon noticing this, the trooper activated the lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. However, instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated, making dangerous lane changes and weaving through traffic.
Given the dangerous nature of the pursuit, the trooper decided to halt the chase for safety reasons. Following the incident, State Police reached out to the registered owner of the vehicle.
They were informed that a family member had possession of the car, leading troopers to obtain a contact number for the young man. In a subsequent conversation, the driver admitted to being behind the wheel and explained that he did not stop because he was running late for a job interview.
He later agreed to meet with the troopers at Troop H office in Hartford, where he was subsequently arrested. The 19-year-old faces a total of nine charges, including reckless driving, disobeying a signal from an officer, failure to maintain lane, passing on the right, making an improper turn, passing at an unsafe distance, engaging in police pursuit, interfering with an officer, and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Following his arrest, he was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on June 17.
