Authorities Investigate Hiking Area for Washington Father Charged with Murdering Three Daughters
Authorities in Chelan County, Washington, are actively pursuing Travis Decker, who is accused of the tragic murder of his three young daughters. The sheriff’s office announced that tracking teams believe they have identified a trail leading to Decker in a hiking area, particularly around Blewett Pass.
They are urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially those living or owning cabins nearby. The devastating incident came to light on June 2, when 9-year-old Paityn, 8-year-old Evelyn, and 5-year-old Olivia Decker were discovered dead near a campground east of Seattle.
Their father, Decker, had failed to return them home after a visitation. An affidavit revealed that the girls had been found with bags over their heads and were zip-tied.
The autopsy indicated that the cause of death was suffocation. Notably, Decker’s white pickup truck was located at the scene, showing signs of bloodstains.
Authorities also seized significant evidence, including Decker’s dog, which has since been turned over to a local animal rescue organization. An arrest warrant has been issued for Decker, charging him with first-degree murder and kidnapping.
The search for him has spanned hundreds of square miles, utilizing air, land, and water resources. Decker, a military veteran with ties to the Washington State National Guard, is known for his outdoor skills and ability to go “off-grid” for extended periods.
Recently, authorities received a tip from a hiking group who spotted a lone hiker in an area known as the Enchantments, describing the individual as underprepared for the harsh conditions and eschewing interaction with others. Following this lead, helicopter teams were deployed and identified a solitary off-trail hiker who fled upon their arrival.
Additional resources, including K9 units, are being utilized to continue the search in the area. In the past year, a court mandated that Decker undergo mental health treatment and domestic violence counseling, which he reportedly did not pursue.
His ex-wife, Whitney, maintained that their relationship was relatively cordial prior to these events and noted that he had never previously failed to bring their children back home.
