Trump to Grant Pardon to Reality TV Stars Todd and Julie Chrisley Convicted of Fraud and Tax Evasion

President Donald Trump informed Savannah and Grayson Chrisley, children of Todd and Julie Chrisley, about his plans to pardon their parents during a call from the Oval Office. This communication took place on Tuesday, with Trump indicating that he aimed to finalize the pardons by Wednesday. The Chrisleys, known for their reality TV show “Chrisley Knows Best,” sought clemency after being convicted of defrauding banks out of millions in 2022.

The couple was sentenced to substantial prison terms in November 2022, with Todd receiving 12 years and Julie receiving seven years for various charges, including fraud and tax evasion. Following a lengthy federal trial, a jury found the Chrisleys guilty of conspiring to mislead banks and evade taxes. A White House official confirmed that Trump would sign the pardon documents shortly, likely within a day.

During the call, Trump reassured the Chrisley children, saying, “It’s a terrible thing, but it’s a great thing because your parents are going to be free and clean.” He encouraged them to send his well wishes to their parents, expressing hope for their future. Grayson Chrisley thanked Trump for his decision, emphasizing his appreciation for the potential release of his parents.

A representative from the White House remarked that Trump is keen to grant second chances to deserving individuals who may have faced undue prosecution. In the context of this pardon, officials noted that the Chrisleys’ sentences were disproportionate to their crimes. Trump’s pattern of pardoning includes other high-profile cases, such as that of Scott Jenkins, a former sheriff convicted of bribery.

Since resuming his presidential duties, Trump has issued a number of pardons, affecting a broad range of individuals, including those involved in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
