Joe Biden Makes First Public Appearance Following His Recent Cancer Diagnosis
Former President Joe Biden made a public appearance on Friday at his grandson’s high school graduation, marking his first event since announcing a recent diagnosis of prostate cancer. The celebration took place at the Salisbury School in Salisbury, Connecticut, where Biden was joined by family members, including former first lady Jill Biden and his daughter Ashley Biden.
On Instagram, Jill Biden shared heartwarming photos of the event, captioning one with, “Proud Nana and Pop! Congratulations Hunter — we are so proud of you.”
Earlier in the day, Ashley Biden posted images that suggested her father was also spotted at an airport, but the location remains unidentified.
Biden’s diagnosis was made public on Sunday when his office released a statement revealing that he had been treated for a prostate nodule after experiencing urinary symptoms. Additionally, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which was categorized by a Gleason score of 9, indicating advanced disease, with metastasis to the bone.
On Tuesday, Biden’s office issued a follow-up statement clarifying that he had not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer and had not undergone testing for the condition in over a decade. This health news has revived discussions among Democrats concerning Biden’s age and overall health, especially as it coincides with the release of a book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson that scrutinizes Biden’s health during the 2024 presidential campaign.
In response to the book’s narratives about her grandfather’s cognitive and physical health, his granddaughter Naomi Biden criticized it as “a bunch of unoriginal, uninspired lies,” asserting that it harms a man of integrity. She emphasized that the true stories of Biden’s character would eventually emerge and deserved to be told.
