Elon Musk Expresses Disappointment with Domestic Policy Bill, Diverging from Trump’s Stance

Elon Musk has expressed his disappointment regarding a domestic policy bill passed by the House, which he believes will lead to an increase in the federal deficit. In an interview with CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” Musk criticized the massive spending proposed in the legislation, stating that it undermines the work being done by the DOGE team, an initiative he leads focused on government efficiency. As the bill moves to the Senate, it faces scrutiny from various Republican senators who have voiced similar concerns about its impact on the deficit. The legislation aligns with many of former President Donald Trump’s priorities, who is eager for Congress to send the bill to his desk for approval.

Musk’s remarks coincide with his intention to shift his focus back to the private sector, having previously taken an administrative role. He indicated a need to concentrate on his businesses, revealing that he is now devoting all his time to work and often sleeping in work environments. During the interview, Musk humorously commented on the bill’s title, “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” questioning whether a bill could truly be both substantial and attractive. The White House has not yet responded to Musk’s comments.

Additionally, the Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the bill could add $2.3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade, raising alarms among conservative lawmakers. Senators Ron Johnson and Rand Paul have both expressed their concerns, with Johnson emphasizing the need to protect future generations from excessive spending. There are further tensions within the GOP regarding proposed cuts to programs such as Medicaid, which could affect millions of people. Ultimately, any amendments made by the Senate will require reconfirmation from the House, where the bill was passed by a narrow margin of 215-214.
